She was running across the beach in her bikini and through the bar sobbing, screaming. Blood was pouring down her thigh and calf. A faint trail was visible in the sand.

It was lunchtime and the drinkers and diners in the bar watched the girl in stunned silence.

A woman called after her, “What happened?”
